Overview: Nayarit Mexico is the place origin for the Banda Cohuich. They are directed by Fili Rodriguez, who has taught much owing to his extensive experience and lengthy career of more than 45 years, he achieved success with approximately 18 record productions with the group Banda Kora, first as First Trumpet player and then as lead vocalist. This is where he was able to completely change the style of Banda music to the one that is heard today.He was the person that combined tropical music and pop with musical arrangements for wind instruments. From that moment music for wind instruments went from folk music to occupy a favorable place in the general populace. In fact he was the creator of the Cumbia banda using a tuba and drums and more popular sounds of Cumbia con Tambora. The name “Cohuich” a word made up of two words “CO” taken from CORA the name of the indigenous people in the state of Nayarit and “HUICH” taken from the word HUICHOL that refers to the existing indigenous population.
