Craig Cummings

Overview: Craig has been a part of the mid-Atlantic music scene for many years. His songs reflect the diversity of modern American music, blending influences from country, folk, and rock and roll. His distinctive voice, fascination with carefully written lyrics, and rhythmic guitar style were developed in the singer/songwriter-dominated 1970s and have been fine-tuned over many years of live performances. Craig calls his style "east coast Americana." In the same way that Gram Parsons tried to blend musical styles to create his cosmic American music, Craig's experiences playing rock, soul, country, and the blues, have resulted in a hybrid of Americana sounds unique to the east coast.

  BIOGRAPHY
Craig was born in Mercy Hospital on St. Paul St. in Baltimore City and raised on the west side of town. Mom and Dad were working class types who raised him in a row house sans the marble steps found on many of the homes in the more central parts of the city. Although he currently lives outside of the city limits, ne considers himself a true Baltimorean - for better or worse.

Craig's first gigs were at teen centers and private parties but he quickly progressed to coffee houses and larger venues and he ventured out into the live performance scene and picked up with some older musicians who appreciated his vocal skills and his tendency to treat every rehearsal as if it were a gig in front of a thousand fans.

Playing in a series of cover and original music projects in the 1980’s and 90’s, Craig honed his performance skills, often setting his guitar aside for the challenges of “fronting” the band with only a microphone in hand. IN recent years, returned to his country/rock roots and has released 2 recordings since 2009.

Craig's first CD, Road Trips and Relationships (2009), the songs reflect the experiences of a Baltimore-born singer-songwriter who has never cared to forsake his mid-Atlantic roots for the opportunities that might have been provided by other venues in other places. His newest CD, Whispering Low, is a summer road trip soundtrack; just right for a trip to the beach or heading west with no destination determined.

Craig is a member of the Baltimore Songwriter's Association (BSA), The Songwriter's Association of Washington (SAW), and the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). His music is currently being featured on several internet radio stations and has received airplay on WPOC radio’s Charm City Country show. This show features emerging local artists.

Nashville and Austin call his name in the night, but Baltimore owns his heart.
