Overview: Growing up in the hills of West Virginia and on the beaches of Florida respectively, Cody Phillips and Matt Surrency began playing music together 8 years ago in Buckhannon, WV. Since then they've searched to find a unique sound in the space between old school and new school country. Many great influences have made a major impact on both Phillips & Surrency, ranging from Garth Brooks, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr., & Charlie Daniels to modern artists such as Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Eric Church, & even John Mayer.
"Phillips & Surrency's debut album "2.00 Cover" contains a nice blend of old & new country. The "old school" music runs the channel between rhythms like those of John Cash's "Tennessee Three" & driving riffs similar to those performed by Waylon Jennings. The "new country" feel in their current release consists of music and lyrics from today's hard edged country and driving southern rock. The lyrics tell poignant stories of life lived and love lost.
