Overview: Gene Dawson began playing guitar in Memphis, TN in the 1960's. He moved to Maryland in 1969, he became a member of the Folk Rock group Meretrix who recorded in New York. After starting a real estate career and a family, Gene became a songwriter in the late 80's while performing in various groups. Gene's originl group, The Imperials was included in a book titled, "The Memphis Garage Rock Yearbook, 1960-1975" and his first guitar currently hangs in the private collection of the Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street in Memphis, TN. He has hosted a house concert series called Dawsonconcerts in Maryland for the past 8 years and continues to write songs.
Being a Vietnam Veteran, Gene's latest song, "Train To New Orleans" is a story about a young soldier meeting an old Veteran on a train and what they had in common.
