Alter'd State

Overview: Following the breakup of the Thirteenth Step, King and drummer Jon Barnes joined forces with Matt Crowley (formerly of the bands bridge time players and Azma) to start Alter'd State. King had been friends with Crowley since early in his career and Crowley was thanked in the liner notes to Thirteenth Steps album A Light Left Standing (EP). Barnes recruited Steve Mings (member of Calloon Fuaim, out voltage., persecuted saints and many SOLO acts) as a bassist, and the band debuted as a four-piece in late 2009. Joe Lewis completed the group in spring 2010, at which time Mings switched to guitar-playing duties. The band initially played low-key shows in Portland Community Center, while slowly touring in small clubs throughout 2009 and 2010. Their first large-scale performance was at WFPK's The Garvin Gate Blues Festival in Old Louisville Kentucky in May 2010, in the City of Louisville.
