Overview: DEVASTATOR founder Herb Simms created the band early in 1990 in St. John’s, Newfoundland to fulfill his driving need for thrash metal with a heavier groove sound. Developing his own vocal style based on a vision of mixing Lemmy Kilmister and Bon Scott in a blender, he was ahead of his time and audiences went wild. Self taught on guitar at age 18, by age 20 he and the first line up of Devastator had cut their first demo, Sonic Devastation.
Throughout multiple line ups and home base relocations Devastator has developed cult-like followings becoming bar favorites, winning various band wars and opening for bands such as GWAR, ANVIL, ENTOMBED, SOULSTORM, RAZOR and OVERKILL earning their reputation as a phenomenal legendary live act.
Over the years, DEVASTATOR has recorded a total of four demos, a compilation disc and a full-length cd. Three of the four songs on the Savage Wasteland demo were recorded by Rainer Wiechmann who has since produced for KITTIE, HELIX, THINE EYES BLEED and BLOOD OF CHRIST and Deva Artist Site
