Steven Spielberg directs two-time academy award winner, Daniel Day-Lewis in the new movie Lincoln, a drama that focuses on the 16th presidents final months in office. In a country divided by war, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end that war and abolish slavery.
The most amazing part of this film-- besides its stunning cinematography-- is how believable Lewis is as Lincoln! You feel as if you're meeting this president for the first time. There is a lot of star power in the movie; Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader and Hal Holbrook to mention a few.
However, this is another case of Hollywood not understanding the publics shrinking attention span; it's a good 20 to 30 minutes too long. It does give you a good sense of being back in that time, and an understanding of how passionately divided America was over the issue of slavery. A beautiful history lesson, watching Lincoln, you won't be disappointed that you spent your entertainment dollars but an action film it is not.
