Laurie's Review: Went and saw the new movie "Ruby Sparks" probably because the plot seemed interesting and there are alot of good actors in it like, Annette Bening, Elliot Gould and Antonia Banderas. Here's a quick rundown of the plot: Calvin (Paul Dano) is a young novelist who has a best selling book early in his career but is now struggling with writers block as he attempts to write a successful follow-up. On the suggestion of his therapist (Elliott Gould) he decides to write a book based on a woman who keeps appearing in his dreams at night and suddenly " Ruby Sparks" (Zoe Kazan) is born. Just as suddenly, she shows up in Calvin's apartment, that's right, she physically shows up, this woman he's been dreaming and writing about and better yet she does everything exactly as he writes it down. Fun at first but soon the idea of creating the real woman of his dreams becomes a nightmare and Calvin becomes tormented all over again. The old "look out because sometimes God does give you exactly what you ask for" routine. The concept of this movie is not terrible but the predictable ending is. Actress Kazan wrote the script and stars alongside her real life boyfriend Dano. My advice is to wait for the opportunity to rent this one!
