In the new movie Argo, Ben Affleck plays Tony Mendez a CIA operative who takes on an assignment to free six Americans trapped in Iran after the overthrow of the US Embassy there in 1980. The film is based on a true story. Six Americans escaped the US Embassy when the overthrow took place and they fled to the Canadian Embassy in Iran where they stayed until their rescue. Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) plays another CIA agent, John Goodman and Alan Arkin are the Hollywood connection. The CIA goes along with Tony's idea to pretend he is a movie director on location to consider using Iran as the back-drop for his new sci-fi movie. That's how he gets in and out of the country during such a hostile time. I liked this movie alot and I like watching Alan Arkin in just about everything I've ever seen him in, he just makes me smile. A good cast, a captivating part of history, a story I had never heard, directed by Ben Affleck. You won't mind paying full price for "Argo."
