St. Pierre's Review: The book, "50 Shades Of Gray," made adult women feel comfortable reading "adult" themed stories. The movie Magic Mike will make them feel comfortable going to a strip club. I was one of maybe 5 straight men in the audience for this one and I still found it enjoyable. The story is good. It's kind of a mashup of Coyote Ugly, Cocktail and Rockstar. I'll say one thing about Channing Tatum...the boy can move. I wish I could dance like that. Ladies, I think this is a good movie to go to with your girlfriends. Then you can cheer and make comments with the rest of the audience.
The story in Magic Mike jumps around a bit and there are a couple plot turns that don't really seem to have a place in the film, but, as a whole, Magic Mike is a good film. Women will love it because of the scenes in the club, but it can definitely be enjoyed by men as well. You just need to check your ego at the door and enjoy it for what it is. Channing Tatum's acting skills have definitely improved. I think Magic Mike proves that he's got a good future ahead of him.
St. Pierre's Review: Ted is everything you would expect it to be, considering it was written and directed by the guy that brought you Family Guy. It's crude but still very funny. There's something about watching a teddy bear cuss and drink beer that cracks me up. Actually, I was surprised at how funny it was. I figured there would be a few great moments here and there but Ted ended up being very well done. The story was even good. It wasn't just a bunch of random moments all tossed together into a blender. Seth MacFarlane has some incredible talent and Ted proves that we've only just scratched the surface.
This is definitely not for kids. It will be better for the 30 something crowd because of all the pop culture references. Especially if you're a Flash Gordon fan. Oh, and keep your eyes open for a few surprise cameos. One of them involving one of my personal favorite actors.
Say what you want about Tyler Perry's "Madea" movies but he's a pretty darn good actor. He'll have a chance to really prove his worth in the upcoming "Alex Cross" based on the novels by James Patterson. Here's the trailer.
Taken took the world by storm a couple of years ago and reminded us all how cool Liam Neeson is. The sequel hits theaters this fall. Here's the trailer.
We just came across a new trailer for the upcoming Dark Knight Rises film. Can't wait to see this one.
