We all knew it was going to happen sooner or later, but the ridiculously absurd contract the Ravens gave Joe Flacco has claimed it's first casualty. Say goodbye to Anquan Boldin. The team has asked the veteran wide receiver to accept a $2 million pay cut of his $6 million base salary. Reports say that Boldin declined paving the way for Baltimore to send him packing.
Why should he take the cut? Joe Flacco wouldn't have had nearly as good of a postseason run if it weren't for Bolding pulling in all of his off-target passes. Boldin has been the workhorse of the team for the last three seasons and deserves to get paid. Maybe Flacco should chip in a little of his salary to help keep Boldin on the field in Baltimore. Joe Flacco never gives credit to anyone but himself, but even he admits how big of a part of the offense Boldin plays.
It's not like Boldin is asking for MORE money. He just wants the team to honor the contract they signed. I don't see what's wrong with that. It's not his fault that they signed ridiculous deals with other players in the last year.
What makes this even worse is that Anquan Boldin said he would retire if he's cut by the Ravens. I don't even like the guy but I think it's a real shame to see a hard-nosed, tough as nails player end his career because his team tied up so much of their finances in a mediocre quarterback. If he gets cut, I sincerely hope he plays one more season with a rival of Baltimore and sticks it to the Ravens so hard when his new team faces them next year.
Who will be the next domino to fall? And, you can quote me on this...all of this drama is being foced by Joe Flacco's contrat. I promise you he will not finish out the contract in Baltimore. I wouldn't be surprised if he's sent packing within the next three seasons.
