It's been 17 years since Independence Day came out and blew all of our minds at the theater. Not only was it visually stunning but it marked the beginning of Will Smith's movie career.
Even though it's been quite some time since ID4 was on the big screen, director Roland Emmerich is still thinking about a sequel. Apparently that sequel has started to come together. And, he's not stopping at one. According to Emmerich, there will be two sequels. "ID Forever Part 1" and "ID Forever Part 2." Clever.
Emmerich also gave some scoop on the plot. The sequels will pick up 20 years after the first one, and the alien reinforcements have finally shown up, after responding to a distress call from the ones that were demolished in 1996. It will be based in the present, but it looks like a very different from our present. Emmerich says, "it's a changed world. It's like parallel history. Humans have harnessed all this alien technology." They have piqued my interest.
So far the only character from the original that will be returning is Bill Pullman. Not like he has much else going on these days. No word yet on if Will Smith will join the team, but his character's stepson will be one of the heroes.
What do you think? Will you see them?
