On the eve of Super Bowl LIII, former Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed has been invited into one of the most prestigious clubs in professional sports, the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame.
This was Reed's first year of eligibility for the hall (one must be retired from the game for five years) and is joined by:
- Champ Bailey, former Washington Redskins/Denver Broncos cornerback
- Tony Gonzalez, former Kanas City Chiefs/Atlanta Falcons tight end
- Ty Law, former New England Patriots , New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs & Denver Broncos cornerback
- Kevin Mawae, former Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans center
- Johnny Robinson, former Dallas Texans & Kansas City Chiefs safety
- Gil Brandt, former Dallas Cowboys VP of Player Personnel
- Pat Bowken, current Denver Broncos Owner
Reed was told this evening (Saturday, Feb, 2) that he would be enshrined in football history by NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame President, David Baker and the Ravens shared the exact moment:
Reed was selected by Baltimore in the 2002 Draft as the 24th overall pick and holds the Ravens' franchise records for interceptions (61), interceptions returned for touchdowns (7), intercepted yards (1,541), longest interception run (107 yards) and yards recovered from fumbles (152). As for career stats, he is ranked 7th in NFL history for the most interceptions (64 from playing on three teams, the Ravens, New York Jets and Houston Texans) and holds four NFL records.
In addition to those accolades, he won Super Bowl XLVII with Baltimore in 2012 and was selected for the Pro Bowl nine times! Reed took to Twitter himself to express his feelings on this great honor. Congratulations on this huge honor!
